The most common reasons for a tax overpayment are:
-work related expenses;
-starting a new job throughout the year or respectively leaving the job;
-wrong or emergency tax code ;
-leaving the country, etc.
To apply for a UK tax rebate you will need your P60/P45 and details of any work related expenses.
